Marooned!

On July 24 I went to Ailuk Atoll in the Marshall Islands for a week.

It was a week of utter isolation: I couldn't speak the language, there was no phone and there were no computers.

After my week was up, the airplane didn't come to pick me up!

For seven days I scanned the skies waiting for it to come. Seven looooooong days.

Finally, today the plane came. So now I am in Majuro.

The moral of the story: don't vacation in the Marshall Islands!

How freaky! So you were there for 7 days longer than expected? Didn't you have to bring your own food? What did you eat? Did you have a volleyball to talk to when you were lonely?

What an adventure! I'll cross the Marshall Islands off of my vacation destination...

DAN! So good to see you posting again (meaning I know you are still alive)!

The plane didn't come for SEVEN DAYS after it was supposed to have been there?! What?!

What did you do? Did you have to pay extra for lodging? Did you sleep outside? How did you find out the plane had come (with no phone, no computer and not speaking the language)? Did you sleep near the runway?

Are you going to write a screenplay based on your adventure?

We're just glad you're back!

Wow! I found your blog doing a search on Ailuk. I was a WorldTeach volunteer on Ailuk last year. I totally understand the feeling of isolation. I am guessing there were to other "ri-pelles" on the island. Not exactly a place I'd choose for a vacation. :) Just curious where you stayed. I'm sorry you got stuck there, but that's life when "Air Maybe" is serving your island. Be lucky it was only one extra week. :)
