One Old Church

This sign is on a church near my school:

236 YEARS!!! The USA didn't even exist when this church started! Maryland was still a British colony!

The Plaque in the Park

I found this little plaque, almost overgrown, on the ground in a park near my house.

It says, "Gus Williams, Coach of the Super Arcadia Teams. A Friend, Coach and Father to his Players. Started Coaching in 1912, Continued until the 1930's."

I wonder if the husbands in the neighborhood realized who the father of all players was. And why they all looked sort of alike.

Mystery Pants

I got a package in the mail today from A. Nicholson in Ventura, California. Who is that? Inside the package was a pair of pants. They are my size, but they are corduroys. I don't wear corduroys. No note. Who are you, A. Nicholson? Why did you do this, A. Nicholson?

I Think He's Probably Really Just Not Very Into You

I went to see this movie last night. Couldn't they have titled it He's Not Into You, because I cannot remember the real name.

I like to see movies that are set in my hometown, as this movie is. I discovered that there appears to be a parallel Baltimore that I knew nothing about for the past 15 years since I've moved here.

This parallel Baltimore has weather that is so nice that it is safe to plan an outdoor wedding without having EMT personnel on hand to deal with heat stroke or smog-induced asthma.

This parallel Baltimore is also filled with beautiful people who have trouble falling in love. Fortunately they have outrageously high-paying jobs which require that they show up at the office about 10 minutes per week, so they have plenty of time to deal with their love woes.

Also, in this parallel Baltimore, all the gay men have been transformed into cliches and are used as backdrops for the all-important heteros.

Hmm, I'll skip that Baltimore and settle for the Baltimore I live in.

Gunpowder Falls State Park

The weather was pretty nice yesterday, uncommonly warm for Valentine's Day. So I went hiking with a friend at Gunpowder Falls State Park.

We hiked to Lost Pond and back.

Then & Now

A hundred years ago when my neighborhood, Arcadia...

...was being developed, they built this groovy 3D sign to advertise it:

That sign is gone now, this is the sign we're left with:

The View from the Argonne Bridge

I took some pictures from the Argonne Street Bridge.

That's the Herring Run River down there.

The herrings don't run any more in that river.

This tree grew up next to the bridge and has connected itself to it.
